Eric Mazur: "I thought I was a good teacher until I discovered my students were just memorizing information rather than learning to understand the material. Who was to blame? The students? The material? I will explain how I came to the agonizing conclusion that the culprit was neither of these. It was my teaching that caused students to fail! I will show how I have adjusted my approach to teaching and how it has improved my students' performance significantly."
This graph shows the results of 2 types of physics tests... generally, students who do well on the Conceptual Test ALSO do well on a Conventional/Traditional test... but not the opposite... some students who did well (even got 100%) on Conventional/Traditional test did NOT do well on the Conceptual Test.

And a GREAT point... listen/watch minute 50:45 to 51:30... regarding the "conceptual difficulties of a beginning learner" and who is best to teach them/explain things to them. "The better you know something, the more difficult it is to teach."
